With two grown children and a granddaughter, I have read a bookcase full of children’s books. The World’s Greatest Possum Trainer was a refreshing change from the usual fantasy stories fed to children in that it’s based on actual events.

Except for some of the classics, most children’s literature isn’t strong on character development, but here the author has actually given us a window into the minds of the primary characters. I think children will like and relate to this persistent little hound who gets the job done. To be successful, a children’s book has to have a “Fun Factor” and this one certainly does. I can see this book showing up in public, school and private libraries.

Betty Evans has been an elementary school teacher and a journalist, skills she combines to write a wonderful children’s book.

Ms. Evans intelligently opens her mind and her heart and shares them in a meaningful manner with the children fortunate enough to be introduced to her work.

A must read for children. And their parents.

Mrs. Evans has written a book that is sure to tug at the heartstrings of every shy and insecure child who dreams of being accepted as a worthwhile individual with their own special talents.

Told through the eyes of a small puppy named Little Bit, it is designed to make the young reader feel the fear and bewilderment of being abandoned by the only people she’s ever known. Her rescue by “Mama” begins a series of great adventures and Little Bit learns how to make new friends and find her special niche as a Possum Trainer on Spot’s Goat Farm. This is an excellent book to read aloud and discuss with your children and grandchildren.

“The World’s Greatest Possum Trainer” was so enjoyed by my grandchildren. Knowing that Little Bit and The Beagle were real dogs, made the story real to them in so many ways.

My six-year-old granddaughter said that Little Bit was a smart puppy and learned lessons from Ms. Sassy and the raccoons. This little chapter book is full of teachable moments for children of all ages. They can learn about friendships, patience, and keeping dreams alive until they come true. I will recommend this early chapter book to all my friends with children.

This early chapter book is both charming and educational for children. “The World’s Greatest Possum Trainer” provides lessons on perseverance, friendship, and loyalty, among other things.Little Bit first becomes friends with Ms. Sassy and the other goats and then with Mike and Fred, the raccoons. With her new friends, she learns lessons about the farm and the critters that she meets along the way. The sneaky possum is the one who teaches her patience in doing a job or making an idea come to life. My children loved the story and the fact that the animals in the story were real. This book will make a wonderful gift for birthdays and other special days throughout the year.
